ABOUT ARTIST

I'm a 17 year old gal from a lil' small island called Singapore. I find happiness in spending time with my family and laughing about jokes that to an outsider, would seem corny. With my family, I can truly be myself and that's one of the many reasons I cherish them with all my heart. I am also someone who thrives off making emotional connections with the people I meet. As for my indulgences, I always look forward to the moment when I discover a new indie band (tbh, all genres are welcomed) online, preferably one that is just starting up and has a small but growing following, and with great music of course.

Making art has always been a part of my life since I was little. From spending over 2 hours trying to add lil' pop-up paper mice on a Chinese New Year card (it was the Year of the Rat) for a Primary 3 art competiton to joining the Art Elective Programme in secondary school. Ever since I became a Higher Art student, my appreciation for art grew massively. It also made me explore and expand my abilities in making art. Each artwork I've created was created in a moment of time in my life - be it bitter or sweet. And that's the reason why I don't see them as just a piece of paper with some paint on it, I see it as a memory - a feeling. I have a strong feeling art would never not be a part of my life, and I hope with these artworks, it doesn't leave yours too.

(P.S. my name 'Huang Lee' sounds similar to the prounounciation of 'pineapple' in Mandarin, which explains the choice of logo :P)

ABOUT CAUSE

Mental health is equally as important as physical health, yet it is neglected in so many ways. Personally, I have never paid much attention to my mental health until I was mid-way through my teens and until then did I realise how much it had affected me. I won't go into the details as I don't think I'm ready to share this story just yet. Nonetheless, I strongly feel that the importance of mental health should be talked more about and it should not be a stigma in society today. Therefore, I will be donating 10% of the profits from my artworks to a non-profit organisation, Samaritans of Singapore (SOS). SOS is an organisation that focuses on crisis intervention and suicide prevention. It also reaches out to the community through projects, campaigns, collaborations, and online resources which addresses suicide. I believe this can make a positive impact to the community, especially in diminishing the stigma that comes along with mental health and suicide, and in turn encourage more people in distress to come forward and seek help.

Note: This is not an affilation with SOS, it is just a personal venture I am passionate about.
